Army apologises for Budgam firing: Announces Rs 10 lakh compensation

Army accepts responsibility for the killing of two civilians in Budgam. DS Hooda, GOC, Northern Command, says it was  mistake which won't be repeated and announces Rs 10 lakh compensation to the kin of each of the deceased and Rs 5 lakh each for the injured.

Hooda says, "We accept full responsibility. We would like to assure the families of our fullest support. We sincerely wish the incident would not have happened. We ensure this kind of incident will not happen in the future. If there was any violation we will deal with it severely."

The army has decided to replace the entire company of 53 Rashtriya Rifles unit that was manning the area of Chattergam in Budgam where two civilians were killed in firing at a checkpost on Monday. The area will now be the responsibility of a different RR unit.
