May 29, 2014  11:42
As expected, PM Narendra Modi will retain the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat and will give up the Vadodara seat. Modi had won both the seats with a thumping majority. He had contested against Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal and Congress leader Ajai Rai in Varanasi. He had won the Vadodara seat by the biggest margin of 5.75 lakh votes. He is said to have informed the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party about his decision.

While his win in Vadodara was on expected lines, the fight in Varanasi was said to be tough. However, he defeated his closest rival Arvind Kejriwal by a margin by over 4 lakh votes. The BJP won 73 of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
