Meanwhile, bilateral relations with Pakistan begin on a sour note with PM Nawaz Sharif unlikely attend Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony. Pakistan says it needs more time to decide. However, things have not been firmed up as yet.

During his meeting with President Pranab Mukherjee yesterday, Modi reportedly conveyed his keenness to invite world leaders including heads of state of neighbouring countries in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation or SAARC. The Ministry of External Affairs has begun the process to send the invites.
