Will the Gandhis get SPG cover under Modi govt?
May 17, 2014  20:08
Congress leaders are believed to be apprehensive about the new government. They believe it may be payback time and the government may be vindictive and discontinue the Special Group Protection to Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra. In addition, the Delhi Police special team provides security to Priyanka's husband, Robert Vadra.

The SPG Act says that protection to the members of family of the Prime Minister can be continued for a year, but with an executive order the government can withdraw the SPG cover to the Gandhi family.

Sources say, this may prove to be spanner in the works for Rahul Gandhi when he takes off for foreign shores. Rahul may not be able to travel to abroad without SPG protection since the Narendra Modi-led BJP  Government has to be in the loop. What this means is that there may be leaks to the media if he wants to keep his visits private. A little birdie tells us that Rahul went to London to meet a special friend, the day Sonia Gandhi hosted a farewell dinner for Dr Manmohan Singh.
