President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday offered floral tributes to Zakir Hussain, who took over as President on this day 47 years ago. Among the new customs Mukherjee has introduced in Rashtrapati Bhavan is to remember his predecessors. Thanks to this practice, family members of past Presidents get to join Mukherjee in paying floral tribute on their birthdays and memorial days.
