A Students' Federation of India activist was pushed into a pot of boiling oil allegedly by Trinamool Congress supporters in Barrackpore.

Chandan Das, 27, escaped with burns on his hands but suffered serious head injuries after he was mercilessly beaten up when he managed to save himself from the oil.

The incident happened in the Srikrishnapur area within Amdanga assembly segment of Barrackpore parliamentary constituency in North 24 Parganas district.

The accused were alleged TMC activists."He is not bleeding but his head is swollen and he can't rest his head anywhere. He is suffering from extreme pain and we suspect he has suffered internal haemorrhage," said Ipika mandal, Das's fiance, who took him to the district hospital at Barasat.

In another incident in the same Lok Sabha constituency, two CPI(M) councilors of Kanchrapara municipality could not cast their votes after TMC supporters allegedly threatened to kill them if they ventured out to the polling station."They said they would slit our throats," said 76-year-old Jyotsna Roy, a councilor for 20 years.
