LIVE! EC bans Modi's maha aarti in Varanasi tomorrow, Jaitley to go on fast
May 07, 2014  15:47
The election commission has banned Narendra Modi from holding a maha aarti at Varanasi tomorrow.

The BJP will ask for an impeachment motion against the three election commissioners for their order disallowing Narendra Modi to perform the maha aarti on Thursday.

This comes in the wake of news that Modi has also been denied permission for one of his rallies tomorrow in Varanasi. Modi is contesting his first parliamentary election from the constituency. His party has reacted sharply, and has asked the Election Commission to sack the officer responsible.

The BJP's Amritsar candiate, Arun Jaitley, is likely hold a dharna in front of District Magistrate Office and then go on an indefinite fast if the Election Commission does not withdraw its order.

The BJP feels that the Election Commission is over stepping its authority. The  Election Commission is also likely to hold a presser at 6 pm today in Varanasi.
