Snoopgate: Thankful for your surveillance, woman tells SC
May 06, 2014  19:07
In a move that could come as a relief to the BJP and its prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, a young woman has told the Supreme Court that she is "thankful" that the Gujarat police was assigned to tail her, and urged the judges to block investigations to determine whether the surveillance was legal, NDTV reports.

The father of the woman who was being snooped upon, has approached the Supreme Court seeking restraint on the inquiry into the case by the Centre and the Gujarat government.

In November 2013, the so-called "snoopgate" scandal broke when two websites, Cobrapost.com and Gulail.com, obtained audio recordings of telephone conversations in which Narendra Modi's right-hand man Amit Shah directed the illegal surveillance of a young woman in late 2009, at Modi's request.
