CNN IBN: Bharatiya Janata Party Uttar Pradesh in charge Amit Shah raised the poll pitch against the Samajwadi Party government, calling SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's constituency Azamgarh a terrorist base. Speaking in Azamgarh, he accused the SP government of allowing Azamgarh to have become a haven for terrorists. "Terrorists have made Azamgarh their base and they launch attacks on other parts of the country. You should overthrow the Akhilesh Yadav government that advocates the release of terrorists," Shah said in Azamgarh.

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has slammed Amit Shah's remark asking for the Election Commission to step in. "I strongly condemn Amit Shah's statement about Azamgarh. The Election Commission must take action," Digvijaya tweeted.

Meanwhile, reacting to political attacks, Samajwadi Party leader from Azamgarh Abu Azmi has denied having any links with the Indian Mujahideen even though he admitted he knew IM operative Faizan Ahmed.
