'Emotional' Meira Kumar bids farewell to staff

A correspondent in Delhi: Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar turned emotional on Thursday as she arrived in Parliament complex to bid farewell to senior employees of the secretariat.

According to rules, on the dissolution of the Lok Sabha, although the Speaker ceases to be a member of the House, she does not vacate her office. The Speaker may, at any time, resign from office by writing under her hand to the Deputy Speaker.

The Lok Sabha secretariat staff presented her a memento following which Kumar shared some memories of her term as Speaker.

Before leaving for home, Kumar was seen walking around the Parliament complex with her husband and family.
