Bizarre plea: Sahara asks staff to pay Rs 1 lakh each for Subrata's bail

Unbelievable, but true. The Sahara Group is now asking its employees to pay up for Subrata Roy's bail amount. The Supreme Court has set an astounding bail amount of Rs 10,000 crore for Roy and two other directors.  Sahara is asking its employees to pay Rs 1 lakh each.

The court has asked the group to pay Rs 5,000 crore in cash and a bank guarantee of Rs 5,000 crore to secure the bail amount.

Yesterday, the Sahara Group told the Supreme Court that it was "virtually impossible" to meet with its demand of Rs 10,000 crore. The court has adjourned hearing till April 3. Till then, Roy will stay in jail.

Sahara's lawyer told the court that it was "highly unusual" to ask a person to pay Rs 10,000 crore to get bail.

Roy and two Sahara directors are in jail for contempt after they failed to appear before the apex court despite repeated summons in connection with a investors' funds case. Sahara group owes more than Rs 20,000 crores to its investors.
