March 27, 2014  14:21
Just in: The Centre tells the Supreme Court that it is in favour of commuting the death sentence awarded to Devendra Pal Singh Bhullar in the 1993 Delhi bomb blast case to a life term.

The Centre has told the SC that there was an inordinate delay of 18 years in deciding his mercy plea and has been suffering from a psychiatric disorder and therefore cannot be hanged.

On January 31, a four-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice P. Sathasivam, acting on a curative petition, had stayed Bhullar's execution and asked the Delhi Government to file its response.
