SC: All accused in Muzaffarnagar riots must be arrested

The Supreme Court has turned down the plea for an CBI or SIT investigation into the Muzaffarnagar communal violence. "We prima facie hold the state government responsible for negligence in preventing communal violence in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas," the court said. The SC directed the UP government to give police protection to victim families till completion of trial and has said that all accused persons named in the cases must be arrested irrespective of their political affiliation.
