Mumbai: Verdict in Shakti Mills gang-rape cases likely today

NDTV: A sessions court in Mumbai is likely to deliver its verdict in the cases related to two gang-rapes in the defunct Shakti Mills premises in the heart of Mumbai last year.A 23-year-old photojournalist was gang-raped at the dilapidated and deserted compound while she was on an assignment to shoot the defunct mill on August 22.

 

The five accused - Vijay Jadhav, Kasim Bengali, Salim Ansari, Siraj Rehman and a minor - are behind bars after being arrested by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch within 72 hours of the crime. Soon after, a telephone operator came forward revealing that three of the accused had also gang-raped her on July 31. A 362-page charge sheet against four accused was filed on October 8.

 

The accused were unemployed youngsters, living at a nearby slum. The accused in the photo-journalist's gang-rape have been charged with offences such as rape, conspiracy, common intention, unnatural sex and charges under Information Technology Act.
