LIVE! 1 dead, 12 injured as suburban train derails in Mumbai

Update on the Mumbai train derailment: One person is believed to be dead with at least 12 passengers injured when a suburban train derailed between Titwala and Ambivali stations on the Central Railway.


Four coaches of the fast local derailed minutes after it left Titwala railway station at 2:27 pm. Titwala is around 65 km from Mumbai CST.

The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals, while railway officials are at the spot to oversee rescue operation.

Long-distance passengers trains have been delayed and the derailment has also affected traffic on the suburban routes.

Officials say that passengers must have suffered secondary injuries as the train was not very crowded and people might have hit themselves against the metal parts inside the train when the coaches went off track.
