Tone down criticism of Obama: Robert Gates to Republicans
March 10, 2014  09:26
Amid mounting Republican attack on Barack Obama over Ukraine, his former defence secretary Robert Gates today asked his party colleagues to "tone down "their criticism and try to be supportive of the President in handling the crisis.

"In the middle of a major international crisis, some of the domestic criticism of the (US) President ought to be toned down while he is trying to handle this crisis," Gates, who served as the US defence secretary under both the Obama and the Bush administrations, said in an interview.

"My own view is, after all, (the Russian President, Vladmir) Putin invaded Georgia when George Bush was president. Nobody ever accused George W   Bush of being weak or unwilling to use military force," Gates argued.
