Former BJP president Bangaru Laxman dies

Former Bharatiya Janata Party president Bangaru Laxman died on Saturday in Hyderabad after a prolonged illness. He was admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad.

Laxman had to step down as the president of the BJP after a sting operation by Tehelka and was convicted by a court in 2012. He was out on bail and was being treated for health problems in Hyderabad.

The Dalit leader was stung by the Tehelka in a defence deal in 2000-2001. He was seen taking Rs 1 lakh bribe in a video released by the Tehelka. 

He was the national president of BJP and before that a minister of state for Railways in the NDA government.
