More than two weeks of anti-government protests in Venezuela have left 17 people dead, the country's attorney general said Friday.

"Up to now we have 17 fatalities and 261 injured. Today we're summoning 59 people (to court) because there is still a group of Venezuelans who insist on destabilizing the country," Luisa Ortega told reporters at an event marking the 25th anniversary of the popular revolt known as the "Caracazo."
