The smart minister

M Venkaiah Naidu is being affectionately addressed as the "smart minister" - all because he is soon to go public with the mega proposal for building 100 smart cities in India - which was part of the NDA-BJP manifesto, if you remember.

The smart city project will be uploaded on the urban development ministry website incorporating some 350 clauses and which will be completed in 10 years. The ministry will float a global tender on December 25, birthday of the first NDA prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Naidu has of late been getting phone calls from many foreign countries whose smart city developers are keen to invest in the Indian project.

"Kya baat hai Naidugaaru, kamaal ki proposals!' was the cryptic comment from one BJP minister after a Union Cabinet meeting.
