Rs 5 lakh each for families of students who died in Beas river tragedy

JUST IN: The family of each student who died in the Mandi tragedy will get Rs 5 lakh as compensation, says the high court. The criminal investigation into Mandi tragedy, which has been initiated by the police, will be monitored by the court. All Larji dam officials who were on duty and college officials who accompanied students made party to the case.

Bodies of three students of VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology, who were among the 25 victims washed away in the Beas river in Himachal Pradesh on June 8, were brought to the city on Monday. On Sunday rescue teams recovered these bodies which surfaced in Pandoh Dam, and the three were identified as Bairinene Ritwik, C H Parmeshwar and Muppidi Kiran Kumar.
