Remember the Indian Express during Emergency?

While Al Jazeera's full page ad in NYT may be interestingly done, it's not unique. On 26th June 1975, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency in India lasting almost 21 months.

During this period fundamental rights were suspended, and news and media were censored.

The Indian Express protested by leaving the editorial section blank.
