Omar explains what the word 'slam' means
June 20, 2014  14:07
"Slam - Slang To criticize harshly; censure forcefully. To suggest that I've "slammed" imposition of Hindi is an exaggeration. I've opposed it & have explained my opposition particularly in the context of J&K where our official languages are English & Urdu."

That's J-K CM Omar Abdullah reacting to reports on the Hindi as official language mandate of the central government.

TN CM J Jayalalithaa has also written to the PM asking him to ensure English, not Hindi, is used on social media.

BSP chief Mayawati: encouraging use of Hindi language is good but our country has rich heritage of regional languages. That should be encouraged too.
