Lokpal likely to be in place by Independence Day

The BJP government has initiated the process of forming the Lokpal by deciding on a search committee, and in all probability the Lokpal will be in place by August 15, 2014.

The PMO has begun the drill by asking three judges for their consent.

There is a clause in the Lokpal Act passed in Parliament that there was no requirement to have the Leader of Opposition in the selection committee, and the government is likely to take this cue and proceed with the appointment of the Lokpal.
