Govt's ganga cleaning drive

Dumping or spitting in River Ganga may land you in jail, if the union water resource ministry has its way.

Keen to keep its promise of cleaning up Ganga, the ministry is also pondering whether to impose a fine of up to Rs 10,000 and a three-day imprisonment if anyone is caught spitting or dumping waster in the Ganga.
