AIADMK, BJD eye Leader of Opposition status
June 09, 2014  18:45
A correspondent from New Delhi reports: J Jayalalithaa and Naveen Patnaik are trying to form a post-poll alliance to get the 'Leader of Opposition' status in the Lok Sabha. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Biju Janata Dal have 37 seats and 20 seats, respectively. They are trying to scuttle the chances of the Congress, which is trying to impress upon the incoming Speaker to recognise its nominee as the Leader of the Opposition as it is the largest opposition party in the House. However, the issue is controversial and if the AIADMK-BJD bid really gets serious then the matter will go to court.
