Power has been restored in almost all areas in Delhi which was hit by a massive duststorm on Friday evening, a discom spokesperson has said.

Normal life was thrown out of gear on Friday as the storm uprooted several trees and snapped power lines, plunging many parts of the city into darkness.

"The thunderstorm had caused large scale disruption of power in large parts of the national capital. Due to the continuous and combined effort of O&M teams of Delhi Transco Limited, Generation and Distribution companies, power was restored in almost all the areas," the spokesperson of major power distributor BSES said.

"Due to extensive damage to a supply line which routes electricity to South West Delhi, load shedding of around 5-6 hours is likely to take place for the next 2-3 days in certain areas of West Delhi like Palam, Dwarka, Tilak Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Uttam Nagar, Vikaspuri and Janakpuri," he said.

However, a major 220kV transmission line from Bamnauli to Papankallan I Grid, which supplies a major portion of the incoming power to South-West Delhi, has been affected due to extensive damage to its four towers, he said.
