Move to replace SC collegium system gathers strength
July 24, 2014  19:32
Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad writes to leaders of all political parties to seek their views on the procedure of appointment to higher judiciary, reports Rediff.com's Anita Katyal.

This comes in the backdrop of the NDA government's efforts to set up a judicial commission for the appointment of judges.

This will replace the present collegium system and give the executive greater say in the appointment of judges. The move, initiated by the UPA government has picked up speed after the controversy raked up by Markandey Katju over the selection of a judge in the Madras High court.
