Air Algerie flight AH 5017 may have crashed over Niger: TV reports

Algeria's national airline, Air Algerie flight AH 5017, with 110 passengers and six crew on board, may have crashed. According to reports by Chinese State TV and Algerian media, Air Algerie is believed to have crashed over Niger in Africa.

Air Algerie said earlier today that it had lost contact with the plane which was flying from Burkina Faso to Algiers across the Sahara. Contact was lost about 50 minutes after take-off from Ouagadougou.

The passenger airliner was last seen at 0155 GMT and is an MD83Airbus. The flight path is believed to be prone to  violent storms.
