Why RK Singh will not be deputy chairman of NDMA
July 09, 2014  16:43
In other news: BJP MP and former Union Home Secretary RK Singh has been deprived of a pivotal position as the Deputy Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).  The deputy chairman gets the same status as a Union Cabinet Minister.

What has happened is that RK Singh is an MP and therefore the Office of Profit clause comes into play.

Much before Singh's name was considered, his "friends" alerted the BJP that he would be  disqualified like Sonia Gandhi and Jaya Bachchan on the Office of profit clause. The government  therefore is not keen on Singh.

Another piece of information is that commerce and industry minister Nirmala Sitharaman will join PM Narendra Modi attend the BRICS summit in Brazil. Modi leaves on July 13 for the summit.
