SC: Sharia courts, fatwas are illegal

In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court today says sharia courts have no legal sanctity and was not sanctioned under the law. The court also said fatwas are illegal if it violates an individual's fundamental rights.

The court said it would come to the rescue of any citizen who felt harassed by a fatwa issued by a Muslim cleric and said such fatwas had no sanction in law.
