Open defiance in DMK, 3 MPs cosy up to Alagiri
January 30, 2014  11:16
In an apparent show of defiance to DMK chief Karunanidhi, party MPs K P Ramalingam, D Napoleon and J K Ritheesh met Alagiri on his birthday eve and greeted him.

The three held discussions with Alagiri for a long time and expressed their solidarity with him.

Last Friday, Karunanidhi suspended Alagiri from the DMK for indiscipline. The immediate provocation was his open criticism of an alliance that Stalin was trying to nurture with another regional powerhouse, the DMDK.

Over recent years, the rivalry with his brother has created two distinct camps within the DMK. It is centred around Stalin being projected as Karunanidhi's political heir.
