Iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi share dais at the Mahalakshmi Racecourse in Mumbai where an event is held to honour the song 'Ae Mere Watan Ke Logo', which has completed 51 years.

The crowd has poured in filling up the empty chairs in the VVIP stand.

On the stage more than a dozen top ranking retired defence services officials are present including General V P Malik, who was the army chief during the Kargil War.

Mangeshkar and Modi have arrived but the programme has not yet started.

The announcement  is made to policemen to allow ' thousands of people' in.

The volunteers have been complaining that the heavy security is not allowing people to occupy empty chairs in the VVIP area. The police bandobast in south Mumbai is tight.
