Kashmir Valley gets respite from cold wave

People of Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region got some respite from the cold conditions as the minimum temperature rose at some places, with the mercury in Srinagar settling above the freezing point for the sixth consecutive night.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 0.9 degrees Celsius, same as the previous night, an official of the MeT Department here said. 

The mercury in Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir Valley, settled at minus 1.2 degrees Celsius, slightly down from minus 0.9 degrees Celsius the previous night. 

Kokernag, in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius as compared to the previous nights minus 1.8 degrees Celsius, the official said. 

The mercury in the tourist resort of Pahalgam  appreciated from the previous nights low of minus 5.4 degrees Celsius, to settle at a low of minus 4.6 degrees Celsius last night.

The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg registered a low of  minus 8.8 degrees Celsius, an increase of almost two degrees from minus 10.6 degrees Celsius the previous night.
