The director of Miss Lovely, the unusual Bollywood film on the soft porn industry, was actually gearing up for backlash from the public and was more than pleasantly surprised at the positive response the film has garnered.

Raksha Kumar writes in India Ink, the New York Times blog, that for Ahluwalia, 'one of the biggest surprises was getting the approval from the Indian censor board for a mainstream release of Miss Lovely' -- something the director 'thought would never happen.' (The image alongside shows the lead actors, Niharika Singh and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the Rediff.com office).

Ahluwalia also tells Raksha Kumar: 'For a pretty wild art-pulp film with a lot of controversial content, the reaction has been incredible. It's a small film with no studio or Bollywood personality supporting us -- it was released through a small independent distributor, which is very rare in India.'
