Greenpeace hangs up its calling card on Essar building
January 22, 2014  16:24
Greenpeace today left its calling card on the Essar House facade -- a huge banner saying 'We Kill Forests'. Greenpeace even tweeted a photograph of the banner on Essar's front.

From what one could gather from @greenpeace's tweets, Essar had called its campaigner, Priya Pillai, and two activists from Mahan in Madhya Pradesh for talks. Essar Power, which has been allotted a captive coal block in Mahan and where it plans to start mining from end of this year, has been facing protests from villagers and activists concerned over environmental degradation.

The talks were to be held at Essar's head office in Mumbai today, when using the occasion Greenpeace activists managed to scale the building's facade and hung out the banner for the whole world to see -- a first in India, as far as we can tell.
