January 15, 2014  11:14
The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Centre, attorney general GE Vahanvati and justice Swantanter Kumar on the plea of a former law intern seeking the setting up of a permanent mechanism in judicial bodies to address complains of sexual harassment at the workplace.

The SC has appointed senior advocates Fali S Nariman and K K Venugopal as amicus curiae to assist it in the case and made it clear that it is not expressing any opinion on the allegations made by the intern against Justice Swantanter Kumar.

Justice Swatanter Kumar has been accused of sexual harassment by a law intern, an alumnus of National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), who worked with her in 2011.

Given that the incident allegedly happened in 2011, the SC asks why the intern has made the the allegations so late.
