Rs 40,000 cr contracts signed, says Army chief

General Bikram Singh said it was wrong to say that the army has not acted against cesefire violations. However, infrastructure along the LoC remains inadequate and India is working towards enhancing combating power. To this effect, 17 contracts have been signed and 23 more are in the pipeline. The total value of the contracts is Rs 40,000 crore.

Brigadier level talks have been planned which will help ensure ceasefire is maintained and the DGMOs are speaking regularly. He said India respects the Geneva convention and the endeavor is to control the situation, not escalate it. 

The army chief refused to comment on the AAP's statement of a referendum on Kashmir, saying as the head of the army, he never commented on politics.

He said a good army man hopes for the best but prepares for the worst.
