Hasina ropes in former dictator as special envoy
January 13, 2014  09:48
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today roped in sulking former military strongman H M Ershad as her special envoy soon after she was sworn in for her second straight term.

The 83-year-old former President and Jatiya Party chief was appointed a special envoy with the rank and status of a cabinet minister.

Ershad, who was at the centre of a long-drawn drama over his party's flip-flop on joining the January 5 polls, was whisked away from his residence by intelligence officials on December 12 and kept at the Combined Military Hospital to be treated for an unknown "illness".
