The Indian army foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of the Jammu region, reports Rediff.com's Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar.

A defence spokesman in Jammu said alert troops noticed suspicious movement in the Krishna Ghati sector of the LoC early this morning.

"The infiltration bid was foiled after troops opened fire challenging the group," the spokesman said. "Searches are continuing in the area,' he added. This is the first infiltration bid on the LoC this year.
