Live! Karunanidhi suspends 5 Alagiri supporters, rift widens
January 09, 2014  15:11
DMK chief M Karunanidhi has suspended five Madurai supporters of hi son MK Alagiri today. Karunanidhi on Tuesday had said he would not hesitate to sack his Madurai-based son from the party and had strongly condemned Alagiri's remarks that he was against the DMK aligning with the DMDK.  Karuna had also warned that those who violated party discipline would be expelled from it.

Things came to a head when Alagiri gave an interview to a Tamil news channel stating that he would not accept, under any circumstance, his younger brother and party's treasurer MK Stalin as the next president of the DMK.

Alagiri also ridiculed the credentials of actor-turned-politician and DMDK president Vijayakanth for his political behaviour.
