The Calcutta High Court today directed the West Bengal government to inform it within seven days about its position on a plea for CBI investigation into the Madhyamgram gang rape and alleged murder of a 16-year-old girl in October.

Justice Dipankar Dutta, hearing a plea for handing over the investigation to CBI by the girl's father, also directed the state government to provide adequate security to the girl's family. The matter will be heard on January 15.

The father of a 16-year-old gang-rape victim, who died of burns after she was allegedly set ablaze, had filed a petition before the Calcutta High Court.
