Arctic chill means parts of US colder than Mars!

A blast of Arctic air gripped the vast middle of the United States with the coldest temperatures in two decades bringing life to a standstill. Businesses and schools were forced to shutdown and thousands of flights were cancelled. Lowest temperatures recorded in the states stood at -37 C.

At least 16 deaths were recorded as the blast gripped the US Midwest and pushed toward the East and South and eastern Canada.

Iin Kentucky, an escaped inmate begged to be let back into prison so he could warm up after spending the night shivering in an abandoned house.
