The Rs 3,600 crore VVIP chopper deal between the Indian government and British-Italian firm AgustaWestland has been cancelled in the wake of massive allegations of corruption.

The decision to scrap the deal was taken after a two-hour long meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Defence Minister A K Antony.

The government had already frozen the contract for the supply of 12 AW-101 VVIP choppers to the IAF after allegations that two top officials of the firm paid kickbacks worth Rs 360 crore to secure the contract.
