Ridiculous if govt breaks its word on Nalanda university status: Amartya

Nalanda University, coming up near the site of the ancient seat of learning about 100km from Patna, had announced it would launch some of its courses later this year.

But as with many things in India, its operations are tied up in government red tape and hindrances.

A section of the bureaucracy now wants Nalanda to be a central university though it is an international effort with several countries pledging funds. In an exclusive interview to Supratim Pal of The Telegraph in Patna, Nalanda University chancellor, Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, spoke on the challenges ahead, the future road map and his vision for the university.
