Oppn growing in TN to release of Rajiv case convicts: TNCC

The Tamil Nadu Congress today claimed that there was growing opposition in the state to the Jayalalithaa government's move to release all seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case and urged it to reconsider the decision.

"A wave of opposition is sweeping the people against the proposed release... the Congress party is strongly opposed to the move to release the convicts," TNCC president B S Gnanadesikan said.

He regretted on the state government's move to release the convicts just 24 hours after the Supreme Court commuted the death penalty of three convicts to life. Tamil Nadu government, on February 19, decided to release all seven convicts serving life term in the case, a day after the Supreme Court commuted the death penalty of Murugan, Santhan and Perarivalavan.
