February 24, 2014  12:32
The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to examine granting of voting rights to armed forces personnel from constituencies where they are posted at the time of elections.

As per an existing Election Commission notification, they need to serve for at least three years to vote from such constituencies.

A bench led by Justice A K Patnaik issued notices to the Centre and Election Commission and sought their responses within three weeks.

The petition has been filed by lawmaker Rajeev Chandrasekaran, who has pleaded for easing voting rights of more than 14 lakh armed forces personnel.
