'How can state govt release killers without consulting centre?'
February 20, 2014  13:19
The Supreme Court says the TN government has not followed due procedure to release the assassins. The SC specifically names Santhan, Murugan, Perarivalan as the three convicts who should not be released. The Tamil Nadu government had ordered the release of seven people convicted in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi.

The solicitor general arguing on behalf of the government has asked how the Tamil Nadu government has the authority to free men convicted by the CBI without even consulting with the centre. The legal arguments for the government are also based on the Prime Minister's stand that to free them would be 'legally untenable'.
