Uttarakhand govt survives no-trust vote

The fledgling Harish Rawat government in Uttarakhand today survived the opposition sponsored no-trust motion as it was defeated on the floor of the House.        

After holding a marathon six-hour debate on the no-confidence motion moved by the leader of Opposition Ajay Bhatt, Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal put it to secret voting, with only the members present in the House.

40 members voted against the motion and 29 voted for it.        

In the 70-member state assembly, Congress has 33 MLAs and has the support of the seven-member PDF consisting of three BSP members, three Independents and one UKD member.
