Modi takes a dig at Naveen Patnaik's limited Odiya vocabulary

Gujarat CM Narendra Modi is at a rally in Bhubaneshwar. Taking a dig at Orissa CM Naveen Patnaik's limited Odiya vocabulary, Modi who began the speech in the language said he wasn't speaking in Odiya to give the CM a complex.

"I attempted speaking in Odiya not to disrespect your CM. I spoke in Odiya to get closer to your hearts," said Modi. He said the local language must be respected and spoken to connect better with the people.

Modi says he was surprised to learn that most people from Odisha who work in Surat are from the Ganjam district, which is also the CM's constituency.

"I have been running the government for 14 years in Gujarat just like your CM. In 14 years the changes we have brought about has drawn people from Orrisa to Gujarat. But in the same 14 years you have destroyed Odisha," said Modi.
