India, World Bank ink $500 million loan pact

The government today signed a $500 million loan agreement with the World Bank to improve piped water supply and sanitation services through decentralised delivery systems in the states of Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.        

The project will be implemented over a six-year period and will support the design and implementation of a dedicated Rural Water Supply and Sanitation programme for low income states under the ongoing National Rural Drinking Water Programme in the ministry of drinking water and sanitation, the finance ministry said in a statement.
